Warren Cardinal Interview

Interivew with Warren Cardinal at lucidcrew.com
Marko: Heya Warren !
Warren: Hi Marko ,I actually just read your Oxton interview last week—thnx for including me in your lineup.
Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
Warren: I’m old as sin – but I feel young as shit.
Marko: How are you doing these days?
Warren: Man – I’m super bizzy. Be careful what you ask for, I guess.
I am working on some CMS stuff to make my life easier, but all the pieces haven’t come together yet.
Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
Warren: Of note, even though it’s not really a keyboard I guess, is that when I was a kid I used to
sit in bed under the covers and turn the calculator upside down and make words like boobless in
glowing green numbers. damn – knix that… it dates me.
Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
Warren: I LOVE Jon Langford’s paintings [jonlangford.de] maybe he’ll see this and ask me to redo his website?!
Marko: when you launched lucidcrew.com are you happy with the result of the site?
Warren: you know, I am happy with it. I’ve received alot of kudos from CSSReboot – so that feels good. It’s far from finished. There’s tons of missing content. This redesign is soooo far overdue, my last design was html and tables. I used textpattern for this one instead of using my own CMS to try what’s out there. The next step is to put some alternate skins to it.
Marko: What do you do in your spare time (I do realize that spare time, in this context, is pretty relative)?
Warren: watch movies, hang out with my honey
Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
Warren: Anchor Steam. not too much ;)
Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for Warren Cardinal?
Warren: I roll outta bed at 6 or so to make my wife tea to take to work, then I fall back into bed until 7 or so when she leaves. I find my way up to my office upstairs and sit in front of the ‘puter for an indeterminate period of time—working, surfing, watching six million dollar man downloads.
Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?
Warren: I don’t remember the last project that wasn’t a referral or someone who saw a site I designed.
Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Warren: Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash.
Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like? How did that take place and why?
Warren: I have always tended towards artistic pursuits. I went to school for acting which was fun for a while, but I didn’t want the starving actor lifestyle. Web design enables me to be creative in ways I never dreamed of. I was told years ago by a psychic – before I even thought of web design – that I would be a gatekeeper and I would be responsible for bringing new talent to the masses… And that I would do it thru some new combination of pictures and music. Years later I started designing sites – then learned flash and did lots of flash sites (pictures and music?).
Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
Warren: an elvis impersonator
Marko: hahaha! :D
Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
Warren: I like it in firefox alot more. [dont wanna beat a dead horse on your IE menu issue]
Marko Heh we fixed that m8 )
Marko: If you could change something on mcville what would it be?
Warren: when you roll over a menu the second time – I wouldn’t have it close the submenu. Also, maybe indent or change the color of the submenu links.
Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
Warren: hmm… lots of stuff. I like Widespread panic, rockabilly, old country, blues, new wave.
Marko: What’s your favorite food?
Warren: peanut butter.
Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Warren: Fridays my night out. I’m here workin most saturdays
some relaxing question to follow
Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
Warren: def. Thai
Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
Warren: cherry coke
Marko: html or asp?
Warren: HTML
Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
Warren: Right now I like Prison Break… even though they are up to 11 commercials in one damn commercial break. I think the show is net 33 minutes long.
Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
Warren: script.aculo.us, particletree, 29digital are a few
Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
Warren: this may seem canned – but my wife Patra is my muse and my inspiration. she was already a great web designer when I was just starting out.
Marko: Thank again for having this interview cya m8!
Warren: have a good one, Marko.
